Birthday Party

A mere 3 paragraph short story. My new favorite short story. It's sad, short, and to the point. It doesn't come with a happy ending like life is glamorized in these other books. It finishes off strong with the old man feeling a disgrace toward his wife. Ashamed and embarrassed. 

The Destructors. Quite lengthy in comparison to Birthday Party but still a short story. This story consisted of a group of little boys in their so-called "gang," trying to get their name known. One of the main characters, T., dcomes up with this great idea to destroy an old man's (Old Misery) house. In the end the house is destroyed and the boys run away scratch free. Old Misery left to himself to wonder what happened. It's a sad story of how teenage boys act when they have nothing better to do. I personally do not like what they did & was left heart-broken. But this story, just like the previous, consisted of real endings that happen in real life all the time. 

People in my class still fail to realize that life doesn't end with short endings where the hero comes in a swoops his princess up. That's fictional fairy-tales. I'm looking forward to reading these next short stories in this unit just because they pertain and consist of unusual ending and what you would not expect. ♥
